Equal Opportunities Policy

We believe no person no mater their age should be excluded from the church activities on the grounds of gender, sexuality, class, family status, means, disability, colour, ethnic origin, culture, religion or belief.  We aim to ensure that all who wish to work in or volunteer help to our church have an equal opportunity to do so.

The Church will seek to appoint the best person for any job and will treat fairly all applicants for jobs and all those appointed.

No applicant will be rejected on the grounds of age gender, sexuality, class, family status, means, disability, colour, ethnic origin, culture, religion or belief.

Commitment to implement the group’s Equal Opportunities Policy will form part of the job description for any worker.

All persons will be respected and their individual potential will be recognised, valued and nurtured. All activities will be developed in an environment free from prejudice and discrimination. Opportunities will be given to all to explore, acknowledge and value similarities and differences between themselves and others.

There will be the opportunity for a balanced view of the world and an appreciation of the rich diversity of our multi-racial society.

The church recognise the wide range of special needs of people in the community and will consider what part we play in meeting these needs.

Planning for activities will take into account the needs of people with disabilities.

Discriminatory behaviour or remarks are not acceptable in the church. The response will aim to be sensitive to the feelings of the victim(s) and to help these responsible to understand and overcome their prejudices.

Bilingual/multi-lingual people are an asset.  They will be valued and their languages recognised and respected in the church.

We will work to ensure that the medical, cultural and dietary needs of all are met.

The legal framework for this policy is

Race Relations Act 1976
Race Relations Amendment Act 2000 Sex Discrimination Act 1986
Children Act 1989
Special Education Needs and Disability Act 2000
